Spring 2010 Hockey Programs

This spring we plan to enter a single team in each division — Mites (2003s and 2002s), Squirts (2001s and 2000s), Pee Wees (1999s and 1998s), and Bantams (1997s and 1996s) — of the Ice Hutch spring league. The teams will play twelve games between late April and early June, and up to three additional games if they make the playoffs. There will be no practices. All of the games will be played at the Ice Hutch Ice Rink or the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. The cost will be $300 per player. If your child would like to play on the spring team for his or her level, please register online here as soon as possible. If we are oversubscribed, we will fill the Pelham team on a first come, first served basis. The Ice Hutch will try to find a place on other teams in the league for any overflow players.

We will offer a spring clinic for beginner hockey players. The clinic will consist of ten one-hour sessions from 8:25 to 9:25 a.m. (except as noted) on the following Sundays: April 11, 18, and 25, May 2, 9, 16, and 23 (7:30-8:30 a.m.), and June 6, 13, and 20. The cost will be $250. Please eregister online here as soon as possible to reserve a spot. If any of your children’s friends or schoolmates might be interested in hockey, please let them know about our spring clinic. It is a low-key, low-cost way to find out if ice hockey might be right for them. The more kids we have in the program, the more fun (and the cheaper!) it is for everyone. So, please help us recruit more kids.

Finally, Erik Nates will be offering a cross-ice league at the Ice Hutch for Mites (2003s and 2002s), Squirts (2001s and 2000s), and Pee Wees (1999s and 1998s). The program will consist of seven practice sessions (skill development and controlled cross-ice scrimmages) and seven game sessions (round robin cross-ice competitions among the teams) from late April through early June. The practices will be on Friday evenings and the games on Saturday mornings at the Ice Hutch. Participation will be capped at thirty-six players at each level, so if you are interested, please contact Erik at enates06@yahoo.com as soon as possible. In preparation for the spring season, the association will be giving a checking clinic for returning and rising Pee Wees and second-year Squirts on Monday, April 5, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 8, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Coach Jeff Hurd will be coordinating the clinic, and will be assisted by Coaches Chris Reilly, Stu McLean, Gary Rothschild, and other Pelham coaches. The cost per player will be $30 for both sessions, which will be collected at the clinic.  If your skater is a 1998, 1999, or 2000 birth year and will be a Pee Wee or second-year Squirt in the spring or fall, this is an excellent opportunity to learn proper checking techniques and prepare them for Pee Wee hockey.
