Manager Requirements

The Team Manager role is incredibly important (possibly the most important) at PYH. Without our Team Managers volunteering their time, much of the hockey season would not be possible.



How to Become a Manager

  2. Need to register on USA hockey as a volunteer. https://membership.usahockey.com

Responsibilities

Team Managers are basically involved in all off-ice activities including:

Communications

  • Facilitating communications between parents, coaches & PYH board of directors
  • Notifying parents of uniform requirements and order process, liasing with PYH to order practice jerseys if necessary;
  • Organizing tournaments and showcases and communicating details to parents with as much lead time as possible; Coordinating travel arrangements as needed.
  • Team communications and notifications (arrival time, cancellations, team meetings, team events, messages from coach, etc);
  • Promptly notifying the PYH Board of any player suspensions or incidents and ensuring carry-over suspensions are properly enforced;


Rostering

  • Ensuring the team is properly rostered with USA Hockey liaising with PYH Registrar – Robin Katz;
  • Carrying an Approved USA Hockey Roster and making sure it's up to date. (Registrar can provide this)
  • Having game roster stickers printed and with for every game.


Scheduling

  • Scheduling all games, factoring in any coach conflicts and team travel preferences, with first priority given to league games;
  • Notifying the Master Scheduler of any ice slot conflicts or proposed trades with other teams;


Gameday Coordination

  • Confirming weekly referee requirements with the Ref Coordinator;
  • Arranging for home game scoreboard coverage and team/player stat collection (if applicable);
  • Entering team scores into league databases (if applicable), managing GameSheet scoring and submissions (if applicable), collecting and organizing tournament-bound documentation (if applicable);
  • Ensuring there is appropriate coach and locker room monitoring coverage for all practices and games;


Maintaining a Safe Environment & Experience

  • Reporting any SafeSport violation in accordance with the SafeSport Handbook
  • Establishing a positive team culture encouraging friendship, mutual respect, fun, and development;


Other Responsibilities

  • Confirming the PYH website is up to date and the calendar is accurate, identifying and rectifying any discrepancies with the Master Schedule;
  • Tracking, reporting and managing team expenses;
  • Notifying the Board if any player disciplinary matters arise; and
  • Notifying the Board if additional team resources are needed.


As the Team Manager, you take on the operational aspects of the team, allowing the coach to focus on player development and on-ice instruction. Communication is the key. Make sure all pertinent information is provided to parents and coaches in a timely manner.
